SHILLONG, SEPT 6: The Greater Laban Community Development Society (GLCDS) lodged an FIR demanding legal action against members of the Implementation Committee for 21 Mawprem Constituency for alleged misappropriation of public funds to the tune of Rs 1.34 crores.“We urged the authority to investigate into the matter and take appropriate action in arresting the people involved in the misappropriating the funds,” GLCDS president RK Dutta said in the complaint submitted to the Superintendent of Police on Friday.
As per the FIR, it was alleged that the committee headed by the then MLA Manas Choudhuri had misutilize a total amount of Rs 1, 34, 99, 085 sanctioned by the government under the MLA scheme 2005 – 2013 for various developmental activities in Mawprem Constituency.
Dutta said that according to the SMB, numerous schemes were approved, sanctioned and implemented for the period from 2005 to 2013.
It was however alleged that most of schemes are under progress and not completed while some of the schemes have not yet even started but payment of 50 per cent sanctioned against each and every scheme has already been withdrawn by the committee, the FIR stated.
“The amount sanctioned has failed to benefit the public but ended up in the personal and illegal gain of the persons involved in withdrawing the amount from the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB),” Dutta stated. He said that earlier the association had also taken up the matter with regards to alleged corrupt practice by the committee to the Director of Urban Affairs and Chief Executive Officer of SMB.
The complaint further stated that not a single work mentioned in the scheme falling under the jurisdiction of the Shillong cantonment have been implemented but surprisingly the amount sanctioned on the schemes were drawn from the SMB without taking any prior approval from the authority.
The GLCDS urged the authority to recover the amount so as to benefit the public.-By Our Reporter
