SHILLONG, AUG 27: Meghalaya teachers under the banner of the Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Associations of Meghalaya (JACATAM) kicked off their agitation on Tuesday by wearing black flag to show their resentment over the state education minister RC Laloo’s indifferent attitude to invite them for dialogue over pending teachers’ demand.
JACATAM chairman ED Nongsiang said “There has been no response from the minister, so we will continue our agitations as schedule.”He claimed that teachers from all over the state including Jaintia Hills, Garo Hills and Khasi Hills have extended their support to the agitation.
The aggrieved teachers will follow-up the black flag day with a pen-down strike on August 29.
Though the teachers wanted to meet Laloo to deliberate on their pending demands, but the minister instead directed them to meet education commissioner& secretary LR Sangma. The teachers are unhappy over this directive of Laloo.
Nongsiang informed that All Meghalaya Adhoc Lower Primary School Teachers Association who has 1010 teachers under their banner have extended their support to the cause.
The agitating teachers will also go for a a mass casual leave on September 3 followed by dharna in various districts and zones on September 4 and a mass rally to be held in Shillong on teachers day September 5 to put pressure on the government to meet their demands. By Our Reporter
