Govt wants addl judge

SHILLONG, AUG 20: The Meghalaya Government has requested the union government to appoint one additional judge in the Meghalaya High Court for quick disposal of the cases. The High Court of Meghalaya at present has two judges while the court is also awaiting for its new chief justice to be appointed after the former chief justice T Meena Kumari retired.

Speaking to newsmen, deputy chief minister holding law portfolio Rowell Lyngdoh informed that the chief minister has requested the union government to consider speedy appointment of new the chief justice and also one more judge.

The Meghalaya high court at present has two judges- Justice T. Nandakumar Singh who has taken the charge as acting chief justice until a new chief justice is appointed and Justice Sudip Ranjan Sen

Lyngdoh  said that the state government is still awaiting for the appointment of the new chief justice and the law department has been asked to communicate with the union law ministry to ensure early appointment of the new chief justice.

Lyngdoh also informed that the Meghalaya high court fortunately does not have a huge load of pending cases.- By Our Reporter
