Shillong, August 19: Williamnagar’s ngos have threaten to go on agitation of state government delays paying compensation to the next of kin of Washington N Marak, who was allegedly killed in a fake encounter by police team in 2010. The ngos are also demanding trails against those involved in the killing of Marak.
The Federation for Achik’ Freedom (FAF), AIGU, FAF, GSU, Mothers’ Federation and AYF took this decision at a meeting held at Williamnagar Saturday.
These ngos felt that “Justice delayed is justice denied” and threaten to take to the street if the government delays payment of the compensation.
FAF president Zintu Marak “We will carry out agitation if the government keeps on delaying the trial of those who are guilty of the inhuman act of extra-judicial killing.”
Marak said Washington N Marak, was killed mercilessly by a team of SOT and Williamnagar police led by circle officer TC. Chacko in what is being termed as a fake encounter at Rongrokgre village 5 kilometers away from Williamnagar on January 26, 2010.
The National Human Rights Commission had also directed to the state government to compensation to the next of kins of Marak be paid and the judicial process for punishing the guilty be speeded up.
Marak accused the government of ignoring the NHRC directives and refusing to pay compensation to Marak family. Marak was the sole bread earner. – By Our Reporter
