Eid-Ul-Fitre celebrated with pomp & gaiety

EIDSHILLONG, AUG 9: The annual festival of Muslims Eid-Ul-Fitre was celebrated with pomp and gaiety in Shillong and other parts of the state along with the rest of the world.

Since sunrise , Muslim faithful  were seen preparing themselves for the big day as people of all ages dressed in their best traditional attire made their way to the different Eid Gah’s and mosque for the special prayers (Namaz)  to mark the occasion.

The annual festival of Eid-Ul-Fitre is celebrated as the festival marks the end of holy month of Ramzan where Muslim faithful fast throughout the month.

During the month of Ramzan, people usually fast but there are rituals that have to be strictly adhered to during this month such as regular prayers, patience, charity and giving up materialist desires.

Apart from the famous Madina mosque at Laban, special prayers were also conducted in other jam packed   Eid  gah’s and mosques in the city.

Many Muslim tourists from Assam also landed in Shillong to celebrate the festival and offer their prayers in India’s first glass mosque “Madina Masjid” at  Laban.

Soon after the prayers, Muslims also greeted each others with hugs and conveyed their best  wishes to the people on the occasion.

Various delicacies including Sewai and Biryani’s were the order of the day in the houses to mark the festive season.

Rain failed to play spoilsports as people came out in droves and visited relatives and friends during the day. – By Our Reporter
