Passed but not selected

SHILLONG, AUG 7: After passing the written test for the 6th Meghalaya Police Battalion, names of candidates from Jaintia hills region have not been shortlisted for the personal interview. This has enraged the candidates who have given 24 hours deadline to the government to clarify on this issue or else they have threatened to go to court. The personal interview is slated for August 12.

The aggrieved candidates, their parents and ngos have also demanded that the government must postponed the personal interview even as it threatened to also resort to a “non-cooperation movement” against the government if it fails to clarify on their demand.

The demand was made after the state police department senior officials failed to give a satisfactory reply to the candidates and their parents on the issue of how their names was not listed for personal interview even after passing the written examination.

The list for the personal interview when it was released did not figure  the names of around 1000 candidates from the two districts of Jaintia hills region (East and West) who had cleared the written test.

RM Shadap, one of the candidate who had passed the written test,  from Mookyndeng said at a news conference “We are extremely shocked that we are not allowed to sit for the personal interview even after having cleared the physical and written tests.”

Shadap said, that they are discouraged by the attitude of the government but warned that they will not accept it as it is totally unfair.

A father of one of another candidates Madong Dhar from Nangbah village of Jaintia hills said, “Surprised by the results, I had gone to the department concerned to seek clarification on the matter.” The officials however informed that the government selected only those candidates who have secured higher marks for the personal interview. He questioned the logic behind declaring these candidates passed in the written test if they were not qualified for the personal test.

HNYF central body publicity secretary Donbok Dkhar said they demand a clear-cut clarification within 24 hours from the state government on what ground were these candidates deprived of sitting for the personal interview.

Nishwa Dkhar, another candidate who passed the written test, threatened that if the government doesn’t respond then they will be forced to knock the door of the court.- By Our Reporter
