SHILLONG, JULY 31: The National People’s Party (NPP) has demanded that the Congress led Meghalaya government to strictly follow the state employment policy and cancellation of the recent advertisement providing foreigners the opportunity to apply for jobs in the state.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday NPP legislator James Sangma said the party is shocked and alarmed at the recent advertisement of the MPSC regarding recruitment for 2 (two) posts of assistant conservator of forests.
The advertisement states that “Displaced persons from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) permanently residing in Meghalaya or intending to reside permanently in Meghalaya” may also apply.
Sangma said, “We demand the state government to strictly adhere to the Employment Policy of Meghalaya and call for immediate cancellation of this advertisement.”
Sangma alleged that such move of the state government is seen as a “sinister design” and might have a “hidden agenda”.
Sangma said Meghalaya has a very clear cut Employment Policy which mandates 40% for Khasi/Jaintia, 40% for Garos, 15% for Other Tribes and 5% General category. In this present case, only 2 (two) posts are being advertised in which case 5% doesn’t fit in with the number of posts.
Moreover, Sangma asserted, a foreigner is not normally eligible to hold any government post which is meant for a citizen of India. He argued that, “This makes this advertisement unconstitutional and against the Employment Policy of Meghalaya. It is also very anti-national and is tantamount to treason.”- By Our Reporter
