SHILLONG, JULY 25: Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri said that ‘Sports’ is a crucial paradigm for growth and development of every nation even as she informed that sports is no longer treated as an extra-curricular activity but is part of the curriculum in developed countries of the world.
Warjri, who inaugurated the Indoor Sports Complex of the Lady Keane College on Thursday, said sports help us in balancing our life-style which has become a necessity. She revealed that study has found that an active mind and an active body can improve the performance of an individual than those who confines themselves to four walls of formal education.
Warjri underscored the need for educational institutions to introduce various recreational and creative activities such as sports which can create a sense of discipline, sense of belonging and sense of unity among the people.
As an alumni and product of the college, Warjri congratulated the college authority for including the sports complex. She said, “Hats off to the college for giving young people space to release their extra energy, talents and creativity.” She felt this initiative will go a long way in developing sportsmanship in the students.
Warjri also appealed to the students to make the best use of whatever facilities are available to them in the campus for their own future growth and development.
The inauguration of the indoor stadium complex also coincides with the celebration of the 78th foundation day of the Lady Keane College which is known as pioneer institute for women’s education.
Earlier, the Lady Keane College principal Dr C Massar informed that the construction of the stadium cost Rs 80 lakh which sanctioned by the University Grant Commission (UGC).
Later, the Science Journal introduced by the Lady Keane College was also released by Warjri in the presence of the present and past college faculty members and the students.-By Our Reporter
