SHILLONG, JULY 8: Delayed by six months, but the state of the art Umroi airport will be functional from Wednesday onwards. Air India will resume its direct flight between Shillong and Kolkata from July 10. This will revive the aerial connectivity in the land locked state of Meghalaya.
The Air India issued a statement informing that it will resume its flight five days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The Air India would use a 46-seater ATR aircraft.
Air India will operate after the Alliance Air, a subsidy of Air India, had suspended its service from the northeastern region (including from Umroi airport) earlier this year. It suspended blaming the North Eastern Council (NEC) for failing to pay pending dues to the air operator.
The North Eastern Council in the meantime is trying working out bidding process to invite other airlines beside Air India to operate from the Umroi airport.- By Our Reporter
