SHILLONG JULY 3: The GNLA and police were engaged in heavy encounter in a remote Shallang village in South West Khasi hills district on Tuesday night. However no one was arrested. After getting intelligence inputs the police rush to the Swangre village near Shahlang where GNLA cadres were ready to attack a camp of the road construction company DSC&CJV which is implementing the construction of the Shillong – Tura road. It is learnt that the intention of attacking the camp of the company was because the latter refuse to give in to the demand of the militant group.
On getting the information about the GNLA impending attack, the police immediately swung into action and rushed to the place.
On seeing the police the GNLA cadres open fire at the team and the police retaliated. After heavy exchange of fire the militants fled. Police had intensified operation in the area. –By Our Reporter
