SHILLONG, JUNE 27: In a tragic incident seven people that includes five minors were electrocuted in Khliehriat, East Jaintia hills district headquarter in the wee hours of Thursday. It is learnt that heavy down pour led to the electrocution Khliehriat is some 100 kilometers away from Shillong.
The deceased have been identified as Rose Mary Bamon (26), Sani Bamon (8), Anita Bamon (12), Bhapaia Bamon (10) which all hails from Lawmyrchiang village. The others included Lastingson Rymbai (27), Heimonmi Pdang (10) and Lumlang Pdang (6) son and daughter of P Rymbai from Pynurkba village.
East Jaintia hills deputy commissioner Abhishek Bhagotia told this website over the phone that the incident occurred because an 11 Kv power line reportedly leaked because of the heavy rain in the area. He informed the electric leak was transferred to a nearby water pipe that connects directly into the house in which the couple and several students were staying.
Bhogotia further said other students who were also staying on rent in the house at Lad Sutnga in Khliehriat West managed to escape from the house, but the unfortunate seven died due to the electrocution. It is learnt some of those who died were trying the save others but in the process was also electrocuted. – By Our Reporter
