SHILLONG, JUNE 24: The State Security Commission (SSC) Monday shortlisted the names of five senior most Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of the Assam-Meghalaya cadres who are eligible for being appointed as a full-fledged Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP).
“The commission has discussed and arrived at the names of five police officers which have been considered by the security commission for the post of a full-fledged DGP,” chief minister Mukul Sangma told reporters after the commission’s meeting.
Sangma said the recommendation was made on the basis of an existing police act which has given mandate to the commission to recommend names to the government.
Those shortlisted for the top police job were Kulbir Krishan (1976), Subhas Goswami (1977), Jayanta Narayan Choudhury (1978), D K Pathak and P J P Hanneman (both 1979 batch).
At present 1977 batch and senior IPS officer Prem Singh is holding charge as the DGP of the state after the Election Commission removed his senior and IPS officer Kulbir Krishan on February 23 last this year.
Kishan was appointed a full-fledged DGP on November 30 last year
but was later removed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) just before the Meghalaya assembly elections early this year.- By Our Reporter
