SHILLONG, JUNE 19: Meghalaya deputy chief minister Rowel Lyngdoh inaugurated the sensitization and interactive programme on crime and violence against women and children at DC office multipurpose hall in Mawkyrwat.
Organised by the Meghalaya State Commission for Women in collaboration with the district administration, South West Khasi Hills district, the sensitization programme was attended by the school students, teachers, members of Village Defence Party, officials from the police department, resource persons and the members of Meghalaya State Commission for Women.
Lyngdoh expressed deep concern over the rising of crimes and violence against women and children in the district and the state as a whole. He said that the government was trying hard to strengthen the law machinery in order to curb crime and violence against women and children in the state. Lyngdoh also informed the government has set up special courts in different districts head quarter in order to enable the district administrations to speed up cases on crime against women and children.
Lyngdoh underscored that need for society also take the responsibility to scale up the morality standard in curbing such crimes and appealed to the heads of the villages and members of the VDP to work together with the district administration, the police department and the state commission for women to eradicate the crimes against women and children in the state.
Later on an interactive session, resource persons highlighted on various issues pertaining to the welfare of women and children.-By Our Reporter
