SHILLONG, JUN 10: Students of the CMJ University, which has been sealed by the state CID, and the KSU asked the state government to take necessary steps to end the ongoing turmoil in the university in the interest of the students.
A delegation of the CMJ University students and KSU met the Director of Higher and Technical Education to discuss the grievances faced by the students’ even as they sought an early solution to the problem.
“We have apprise the director that the students of the CMJ University still do not know their fate even though certain steps have been taken by the government’s end to rehabilitate the affected students in other universities,” KSU education secretary Donald Thabah told reporters after the meeting on Monday
According to Thabah, the problems of CMJ students will not be over even if they are accommodated in other universities as they have to comply with the norm of losing or repeating a year of their studies when they join the new university.
“The director assured us that if there is a possibility, the education department official and other universities will discuss and chalk out a strategy to accommodate the students with they having to repeat a year.” Thabah informed.
Pertaining to the compensation to the CMJ University students, Thabah said, “The Director has assured that the matter with regard to reimbursement of fees of the CMJ students will be discussed with the higher-ups of the Government.”
The CMJ University was closed after Meghalaya governor RS Mooshahary had filed an FIR against the institute for not following the norms and awarding fake degrees. Ever since the students of the university have been trying to impress on the government to find a solution to their problem as they now will suffers due to the closure of the university.- By Our Reporter
