SHILLONG, MAY 14: The A∙chik Students’ Welfare Association (ASWA) has demanded a magisterial enquiry to probe the custodial death of Topu A Marak inside Tura police station.
“We are demanding for a magisterial enquiry immediately and action if anyone is found guilty of Topu’s death,” said ASWA president Augustine R Marak in a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo hills district.
Topu A Marak of Tura Matchikolgre was found dead inside the lock up of the Tura police station on May 9, 2013. Marak was arrested by the police for allegedly being a drug addict.
“The incident was totally incorrect in the eye of law and the police officers of the Tura police station and medical officers must take the responsibility,” Augustine said adding “human rights were totally violated.”
Marak, “therefore, said the magisterial enquiry must be initiated against the police officers of Tura police station and the medical officers and also punishment them if found guilty. –By Our Reporter
