SHILLONG, MAY 13: The Border Security Force (BSF) posted on the Meghalaya frontier seized cattle and goods worth about Rs 8 lakh from the border along Bangladesh and arrested four Bangladeshi smugglers in separate incidents during the last week.
A BSF release issued here on Monday said acting on specific inputs, its troops posted Gumaghat border outpost in South West Khasi Hills district apprehended the four smugglers – Sukar Ali (48 ) s/o Sanveban Ali, Pahar Ali (35) s/o Fakir Ali, Md Sahajan (58) s/o Md Islam and Novel Ali (48) s/o Modur Ali – while they were trying to reenter Bangladesh with 11 wooden plough and 4 axes. “All of them residents of village Maqswdpur, P.O. Maktagarh, district Sunamganj in Bangladesh,” the release added.
The BSF troops also seized 22 cattle, 401 bottles of liquor, forest produce and other contraband items worth Rs. 7,87,585 during the week. “The apprehended persons and seized items have been handed over to concerned departments for further disposal and legal action as per law of land,” the release said.
