SHILLONG, APR 25: West Garo Hills district formed the Childline Advisory Board, a project of the union government, to protect the rights of the children and provide care and support for children in difficult circumstances.
The deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi is the chairperson of the CAB, the district child protection officer as member secretary and Bakdil, a Facilitating Collaborative Agency.
The CAB was formed on Wednesday and the deputy commissioner spoke about the need of such a board to protect the children at a time when the rights of the children are under national focus because of heinous crime like rape of minors throughout the country. Emphasizing on the need to protect and care for the children he called for a serious thinking as to the direction the society is moving in the context of violation of the rights of the children in a matrilineal society.
Bakshi also reminded that traditional law has a limitation in dealing with heinous crimes such as rape of minors and said such matter should be addressed through the law of the land.
West Garo hills district Superintendent of Police will be the ex-officio member of the board and he promised that the cases brought to the notice of the police would be taken up and wherever necessary charge-sheets will be filed fast to ensure that the “law of the land” is obeyed and enforced without fear, favor and prejudice.
The SP also reiterated the police commitment to book the rapist from Purakasia who had abused a seven year old child.- By Our Reporter
