SHILLONG, APR 19: The centre is likely to continue banning bothAssam’s active militant outfits – the United Liberation Front of Asom(ULFA) and National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) – for theiralleged unlawful activities in their home state, official sources said on Friday after the hearing of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal on Friday.
The Assam government, while submitting documentary evidences on the outfit’s activities in Assam and neighbouring states including Meghalaya still wants these organizations to be banned, a senior Assam government official said.
Deposing before the tribunals, the official said documentary evidencesindicated that the two organizations are yet to abjure violence, adding that it is up to the tribunal to make necessary recommendations to the union home ministry.
More than 40 senior government officials representing Assam’s homedepartment and senior police officials deposed before the tribunals, which is conducting a two-day hearing here beginning Friday.- By Our Reporter
