Champion’s lawyer allowed to be present during interrogation

Shillong, August 7 : GNLA chairman Champion Sangma petition has been accepted and his lawyer Sujit Dey will be allowed to be present during his interrogation.

The militant leader had written to the police department to allow his lawyer to be present when he is interrogated.

Police sources confirmed that Sujit Dey will be there with his client when he is interrogated by various agencies including RAW apart from state police.

However when contacted Sujit Dey said  over the phone, “Champion had filed an appeal to permit me during the interrogation which I delivered it today but as of  now I have not got any information in that context”.

Champion has made known his desire to hold peace talk with the government. However, the state home minister HDR Lyngdoh had ruled out such possibility as he had said that talk can take place only if all the GNLS cadres lay down arms and surrender.
