Rule of law will be enforced: CM

mukul-sangma 2SHILLONG, APR 7: Making it amply clear that the MUA II government is firm in enforcing the law of the land, Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma said action as per law will be taken against those who are involved in the vandalism that left three people injured and some shops vandalized in Laitumkhrah during the KSU rally.

Expressing his anguish over the incident, Sangma on Sunday said, “It is important for all concerned to act as responsible citizens and ensure that law of the land is respected and whenever we do anything there should not be a situation where the image of the state is “tarnish”.”

Sangma felt that Meghalaya and other north eastern states have suffered enough because of the negative publicity.

A day after the incident took place, the Meghalaya government immediately constituted a magisterial inquiry to probe as to who was responsible for the violence and report to the government within a week.

Asserting that as far as the issue of breaking the law is concerned, Sangma said government is firm in enforcing the provisions of the law.

Sangma said, “I want to make it abundantly clear that the law of the land will prevail and government will ensure the enforcement of the law of the land irrespective of who are the perpetuators of the crimes.”

Appealing to the citizens to ensure that the image of the state is not tarnished, Sangma said ,  “In the interest of the state, particularly the future generation, we must ensure that all that we do, does not harm the image of the state… do not allow any scope or creating a negative image or perception in as far as the image of the state is concerned.”

Sangma said such incidents of violence will otherwise hamper and affect the growth and development of the region.

That is why, Sangma felt, that the people of the state must take upon themselves the responsibility of ensuring conducive environment for overall growth of the state… as this is the only thing which will create opportunities for the younger and future generation.- By Our Reporter
