SHILLONG, APR 4: North Garo hills deputy commissioner W Khyllep has urged the district officers to come up with innovative plans for their respective departments to accelerate growth in the district. His advice came during his address to the district head of offices during the District Coordination Committee (DCC) meeting in his office chamber April 3.
Khyllep said that the district should have a growth rate of 12 to 15 percent in order to catch up with the rest of the country and to achieve this the officers must come up with creative and innovative schemes.
Putting easy road communication at the top of the agenda as Khyllep said good road connectivity is a must for development, he stressed on the need to make all roads motorable. He asked the PWD (roads) to look for possibilities to create new roads which can be constructed cycle by cycle.
Khyllep also told the PWD buildings division to take necessary steps for renovation of all existing government buildings and also to move the government for necessary sanction for construction of DCs complex and quarters.
Khyllep also asked the officers to ensure that shops and business establishments in North Garo hills that are still putting up signboards bearing East Garo hills district name long after the inauguration of the North Garo hill district must change their signboards.
Khyllep also insisted that all DDOs who were still drawing their bills from Willamnagar Treasury office must now draw the bills from Resubelpara Treasury from April.
On the water scarcity issue, Khyllep was informed by the PHE that the main cause of water shortage was the drying up of catchment area and in this connection it was decided to form water management committee with the deputy commissioner as its chairman to work out the solutions to the problem. The committee will meet on April 16 next to discuss and chalk out the strategies to resolve water crisis.
Khyllep also advised officers who are facing security threats of any form to speak or confide with the district’s Superintendent of Police.- By Our Reporter
