SHILLONG, APR 3: Shocked over the quite reinstatement of sub inspector SN Roy, who had been accused of involvement in the gang rape of a school girl, as quarter master in the police reserve, the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) has raised a pitched by demanding his removal.
“We demand that the tainted police officer (Roy) should immediately be removed from the post,” CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing said in a letter to Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri on Wednesday.
Kharshiing said Roy reinstatement is an insult by the authority who slyly reappointed him despite being placed under suspension for the alleged rape case.
In February 2011 last, the victim had alleged that one of the main accused in her gang-rape was SN Roy. However the victim succumbed to her injuries due to an accidental fire incident. The case is still pending.
Kharshiing said that the home department has promoted Roy when the victim had mysteriously died of burns and her family suddenly disappeared. She was of the opinion that the police should have thoroughly investigated the death of the girl and the disappearance of her family.
Demanding the transfer of the pending gang-rape case to fast track court, Kharshiing said, “There cannot a greater insult than to reinstate Roy that to a better post when he is accused of raping a minor and the case is still pending.”
When the gang-rape case surfaced and Roy was also accused of being involved the police arrested him and four others identified as Bobby Jyrwa Nongsiej, Johny Kshiar, Brando Nongrum and Angel Dulian (classmate of the victim) — who were also allegedly involved in the gang-rape.- By Our Reporter
