BANGALORE, APRIL 03: Shillong’s Langsning FC failed to maintain the early momentum it had gained over Mohammedan Sporting Club and succumbed to the Kolkata outfit 1-2 in the first leg match of the 2nd Division I-League at the Bangalore Football Field on Wednesday.
This is the second successive defeat for Langsning. They had earlier gone down to Mumbai Tigers 0-1 on Saturday.
It was the Shillong team who went into the lead in the 43rd minute of the game when Nigerian striker Yinka Joel Sunday Ayeni dribbled pass two rival defenders and placed the ball inside the net, giving the Mohammedan custodian Arnab Das Sharma little chance to react to the shot.
Their joy, however, was short lived as an unmarked Younes Balthaw of the black and white team neatly converted a cross from substitute Md. Muktar in the 52nd minute. TheKolkata side completed the tally in the 56th minute through the spot kick, which was awarded by referee Rahul Dsa after L. Devit Meetei brought down Gouranga Dutta inside the box. Charles D made no mistake with his shot, that proved to be a match -winner. With this win, the Mohammedans have collected four points from two matches.
Later, taking to this reporter, a disappointed Langsning technical director L. Darlong said even though his team played good football over all, their defense proved porous. “We played really good football, but I can’t say what happened in the defense line in the second half,” he said.
On Friday, Langsning will take on Bhawanipore FC at 1:45 p.m. while Southern Samity will lock horns against Mohammedan Sporting at 4:15 p.m. (By Suraj Joshi)
