Shillong, August 4 : For the second time, the ‘Shillong Run 2012,’ a marathon organized by the Agency for Sustainable Development Initiatives (AfSDI) to raise fund for the construction of a school building of the Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive School, was a great success with almost five hundred participants from all walks of life young and old taking active part.
The route totaling more than thirteen kilometers for the senior category and approximately ten kilometers for the junior, almost encircling Shillong city, was covered by the runners.
“It was tough but I was determined to make it so I didn’t give up,” said young Batsing Star Kharjahrin with a smile as he took away the first prize in the Junior Category. Batsing was followed by Yaurukhan Kasar, a Shillong Lajong Football Club player and Amstar John Syiemïong in second and third place respectively.
From among the girl participants, Kyntihun Syiemlieh took the first prize in the junior category followed by Shabarida Kharjahrin and Ïarisa Khyriem in second and third respectively.
In the senior ladies category, Kyntimon Marweiñ took the first prize followed by Dateiban Kynmaw Marweiñ and Darimon Jyrwa in second and third place respectively.
In the senior men category, Jomsing Ramsiej from Mawkyrwat won first prize followed by Wanboklang Jyrwa and Hamaroy Sohphoh in second and third place respectively.
Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma along with Mairang legislator Metbah Lyngdoh and Chief Secretary WMS Pariat distributed the prizes to the winners.
