SHILLONG, MAR 5: Eleven cabinet ministers are likely to be sworn in early next week after the names that was submitted to Sonia Gandhi by chief minister Mukul Sangma receives her approval.
After his swearing in ceremony as the chief minister on Tuesday, Sangma told this website that his cabinet ministers will be sworn in either on Monday or Tuesday. He said, “I will be leaving soon to Delhi to get the list of cabinet ministers approved by the Congress president Sonia Gandhi.”
It is likely that the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected legislators will be held before the formation of the cabinet. Sangma said, “ I will be writing a letter to the Governor requesting him to appoint a pro-term speaker so that he can administer the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected legislators.
Sangma is looking forward to the March 7 date for administering the oath of office to the newly elected legislators. He said, “ I will suggest one of the legislators of the 1972 batch for appointment as the pro-term speaker.”
There are four legislators who belong to the 1972 batch. Former chief ministers Salseng C Marak, DD Lapang, Rowell Lyngdoh and the HSPDP president and former deputy chief minister HS Lyngdoh belongs to the 1972 batch. – By Our Reporter
