SHILLONG, FEB 14: With7, 53, 307 female voters- more than half of the total electorates in the state- the All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) president Anita Verma claims that women will come out in large number on the polling day and vote the Congress to power.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Verma said that in matrilineal Meghalaya women are politically aware and knows quite a lot since they are politically suave and, therefore, the results of the election will depend much on them.
Claiming that the Congress will form the next government, she said she is hopeful that of the six women Congress candidates, ninety percent of them will be elected. She even said, “Maybe all the Congress women candidates might be elected, you never know.”
Verma also felt that national issues will not be deciding factors in the Meghalaya assembly polls as the electorates will be influenced by the issues that are connected with the state.
Verma informed that the Congress is banking on the developmental schemes and initiated by the Congress led UPA government at the central even as she said that the issue of price rise cannot be tackled as it was a global phenomenon.
Claiming that the Congress government at the central always had soft corners for the hill state, Verma felt that it will be beneficially if the people votes for the Congress government at the state so that it can connect well with the union government ruled by the same party. – By Our Reporter
