SHILLONG, FEB 11: Two Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants were arrested by security forces near the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills district and West Garo Hills districts in the last 30 hours.
After getting a tipoff, the Border Security Force (BSF) deployed along the international border with Bangladesh launched a special operation and nabbed forty-year old Dawin N Sangma, believed to be an active militant from Dangar area of the district on Sunday night.
Sangma later provided the BSF with a lead that subsequently lead to a joint operation with the state police commandoes and apprehended Suresh S Sangma (20) at around midnight on Sunday.
Both are residents of greater Mawsynram areas in East Khasi Hills district.
Two cell phones without SIM card and Rs 700 cash were recovered from their possession.
Investigation revealed that both were involved in anumber of extortion and other militant-related activities, the BSF official said.
In another case, the BSF also seized 8 kgs of Ganja worth Rs 40, 000 while it was being smuggled into Bangladesh along the international border in South West Garo hills district.
The arrested smugglers and seized items have been handed over to police for further action. – By Our Reporter
