Rehabilitation of Umiam dam, bridge to be completed by first week of August

The rehabilitation of the Umiam dam and retrofitting of the bridge are being targeted to be completed within the first week of August.

Informing this on Thursday, Power Minister AT Mondal said, “We are working on it and I am very confident that it will be completed in due course of time by July or first week of August.”

The present works are being taken up under the Dam Rehabilitation Improvement Project (DRIP). The main objectives of DRIP are rehabilitation and improvement of dams and associated appurtenances safety institutional strengthening.

The major works under DRIP includes Drilling and Grouting of Dam, Crack repairing and Hydromechanical works.

Mondal informed that vehicles will be allowed to pass through the bridge in a zigzag way.

“We are also working to allow vehicles to pass in a zigzag way so that we can work better to complete the work,” he said.

According to him, traffic flow is okay as there is no problem.

Further, the minister said that the rehabilitation work is being reviewed almost on a weekly basis.
