SP EKH distribute medals to winners of 3rd Shillong Open Shooting Championship 2024

The 3rd Shillong Open Shooting Championship 2024 was held on June 1 and 2 at the Meghalaya Police Shooting Club indoor shooting range at the Police Reserve, Shillong.

It was for the first time that a large number of shooters participated. 

A total of 67 shooters participated, 45 rifle and 22 in Pistol. The competition was for Air Rifle and Air Pistol. The competition was held in six categories namely for sub youth 11-16, youth 16-18, Junior 18-21, Senior 21-45, Master 45-60, Para and Rifle and pistol from hearing and impaired category.

There were also for the first time 8 athletes from the School & Centre for the Hearing Handicapped Children, Laitumkhrah including one Para Shooter.

The medal ceremony was distributed by chief guest Rituraj Ravi, SP of East Khasi Hills District.

Speaking on the occasion, Rituraj Ravi congratulated all the medal winners and encouraged all to continue to achieve more in their sports.

The chief guest appreciated the efforts of DIG Davis N Marak for his role in the setting up of the Meghalaya Police Shooting Range in the Police Reserve Shillong. The SP also appreciated the efforts of President John F Kharshiing, and Secretary Neil Sootinck from the Shooting Association of Meghalaya in the promotion of shooting sports.

Earlier in his welcome address, John F Kharshiing, thanked Davis NR Marak, who is also Vice President, the Meghalaya Police Shooting Club for hosting the 3rd Shillong Open Shooting Championship, 2024 and stated that Shooting Association of Meghalaya has now come a long way and today besides attracting more shooters the SAM has also been empowered today with qualified NRAI JURY MEMBERS namely Anjali singh, Davis NR Marak and John Thounaojam including NRAI QUALIFIED COACHES Balarishisha Rani, Dennyson Kyrsain, Mawdaker Marwein, and Veronica Buhroi all 7 from Meghalaya.

He stated that the vision of the Shooting Association of Meghalaya was to have its own integrated shooting range so as to provide opportunities for the talented pool of shooters from the state.  He recalled the statement from a very senior Army official that “the best snipers in the Army come from the North East and if there is a proper fully integrated shooting range in Meghalaya there is possibility of producing world class shooters”.

The special guests of the event also include Pankaj Rasgania, SP City, Kamakya Prasad, SP Traffic, Ashish, SDPO Sadar, Shivangi Geol, Asst SP, P Fancon, Principal SCHHC ( School & Center for the  Hearing Handicapped Children), M. S. Jyrwa, Retd – Exe Director, Operation & Maintenance,NEEPCO & Technical Director, Assam Petroleum Ltd among others.
