The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the NEHUTA, NEHUNSA and NEHUSU on Wednesday threatened to seek the Meghalaya High Court’s intervention into the alleged violation against the UGC Model CRR (Cadre Recruitment Rules) by the University’s Vice Chancellor Prof PS Shukla.
Addressing the media, JAC chairman Prof Lakhon Kma said that the VC is trying to defend the indefensible.
“The illegal appointment of Rohit Prasad (as technical officer/senior consultant) has no backing by any statutory provisions of NEHU and is a blatant violation of UGC Model CRR,” he said.
On November 4, Prof Shukla had claimed that the appointment of Rohit Prasad was made after taking the approval of the University’s Executive Council (EC).
Prof Shukla said that the VC is the appointing authority for temporary appointment to all Group A/Group B posts. The appointment of Rohit Prasad is not permanent and it will also be coterminous with the vice chancellor.
Prof Kma however said that the statement of the VC was “full of lies” to mislead the stakeholders of the university and the public at large adding that the JAC may also be compelled to approach the Meghalaya High Court for its intervention on this matter.
Prof Kma alleged that the VC had quoted clause 6 (b) of the UGC Model CRR to claim that the appointment of Prasad was genuine as it was approved by the executive council of the university.
“The quotation made by the VC is half baked as the UGC Model CRR clearly stated that appointment should be done only by the Selection Committee after advertisement for the same has been published in the newspaper (which was not followed in this case),” he added.
Further, the JAC chairman said that they have also decided to write to the President of India and Meghalaya Governor for their necessary intervention into the gross violation of the UGC Model CRR by the VC.
“The JAC will sit and chalk out our next course of action tomorrow on how to go ahead with our agitation and decide to approach the court for addressing our grievances,” he added.
