SHILLONG, SEP 11: A joint delegation of the dorbar shnong of Thangskai and Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) on Monday requested the intervention of the health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to disqualify one Ayush Kumar from the list of selected candidates for MBBS state quota as he is not a permanent resident of the village.

“We demand that his name be strike out from the list of selected candidates for MBBS state quota as he is not a permanent resident of Thangskai village, East Jaintia Hills District,” the dorbar shnong of Thangskai said in a letter submitted to Lyngdoh.

“The dorbar shnong of Thangskai village unequivocally condemns the fraudulent act of Ayush Kumar and we expect that the government will take immediate action on this matter,” it said.

It said that in the year 2021, the Waheh Shnong (headman) of Thangskai was approached by Sunil Kumar, father of Ayush to issue a temporary residential certificate to his son solely for the purpose of showing his present stay of address to the college in Odisha where his son was doing his 10+2 studies.

The certificate is solely issued only for showing his present address and that the father has assured, that it is only for the said purpose and owing to the fact that he has been working and staying in Thangskai village for the past 12 years, the Waheh Shnong have issued the certificate.

When the temporary certificate was issued, it was never stated that the same would be used to apply for Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC) or any other document from the government or for any facilities from the government of Meghalaya, it said.

The JSU said that the delegation has decided to seek further clarification from the district deputy commissioner on the decision to issue PRC to Ayush Kumar.

“The minister had told us that the government had accepted the documents which was sent by the DC office and found that Ayush Kumar had submitted a PRC issued by the DC office in 2021. She also insisted that the delegation seek more clarity from the DC concerned on the PRC issued to him,” it said.

Meanwhile, the JSU has urged all traditional heads to refrain from issuing NOC and residential certificates without any verification.
