SHILLONG, SEP 7: Contributions with bat and ball by Marme M Sangma saw South Garo Hills District Cricket Association soundly defeat Tura DCA by 57 runs on the second day of the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-19 Girls Inter District Cricket Tournament at Salpara in North Garo Hills today.
In the other match, at Umbuda in Ri-Bhoi, Shillong Cricket Association beat West Khasi Hills DCA by 15 runs.
Both games were affected by rain after the first innings and in Zone 2, SGH were made to bat first by Tura and they made 143/7 in the allotted 35 overs. Marme top-scored in the middle order with an unbeaten 33 and there were also healthy contributions by Janicka R Marak (27) and Jaylynn R Marak (22). Awesa G Momin was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/31.
After the rain interruption, Tura were set a revised target of 118 from 25 overs but were skittled for 60, in part thanks to a brief but devastating spell by Marme, who claimed 3/7. Her team mates Rikmanchi M Sangma (2/4) and Brespina N Marak (2/8) finished with a brace each, while no Tura batter managed to get into double figures.
Meanwhile, in Zone 1, SCA won the toss and chose to bat first and they made a very similar score to SGH, being dismissed for 143 in 34.3 overs. Natasha Rabha top-scored with 22, while Neelam Roy and Anjana Sahani both hit 20 each. For WKH, Fenny Nongrum bagged 4/8 in 7 very tight overs, while opening bowler Sistilin Ryntathiang claimed 2/18 and Abiezer Kharsyiem 2/33.
The rain interruption in this game was more severe, leaving only 10 overs for WKH to chase down a revised target of 61. However, they were kept down to 45/4, with Emisakani Warjri finishing not out with a run-a-ball 12. Roy (1/8), Rabha (1/11) and Chandni K Sahani (1/17) picked up a wicket each for SCA.
Tomorrow, East Khasi Hills CA will take on South West Khasi Hills DCA in Zone 1 while Tura will be back in action against hosts North Garo Hills DCA in Zone 2.
