SHILLONG, AUG 8: A lower court has sentenced three of the five accused persons to life imprisonment for committing murder thirty-two years ago.
On August 4, the Court of Sessions Judge, West Jaintia Hills, District Jowai on appreciation of evidences, found the accused Tngen Muruh, She Muruh and Tne Muruh of Lumkhudung Village guilty and convicted them for an offence of murder amounting to culpable homicide U/s 302 IPC.
Accordingly, the 3 convicts are sentenced to life imprisonment.
A case was registered with the Jowai police station against five persons namely Tngen Muruh, Lowit Muruh, She Muruh, Tne Muruh and Kamai Muruh for their involvement in the murder of Sada Muruh at Lumkhudung village on November 16, 1991. The FIR was filed by the brother of the deceased Kaia Muruh.
The case was taken up for investigation by SI QE Pala. After investigation, the IO of the case filed a charge sheet against all five accused persons. Unfortunately the IO QE Pala died on June 11, 2022.
Whereas, two accused persons – Kamai Muruh and Lowit Muruh reportedly died during the course of trial. The trial further proceeded against the 3 accused Tngen Muruh, She Muruh and Tne Muruh.
