SHILLONG, JULY 29: Opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) state president Charles Pyngrope on Saturday said it will be difficult for his party to decide on whether to field candidates for the Shillong and Tura parliamentary constituencies for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
According to him, the reason was due to the poor performance of the party in the 2023 Assembly elections, held earlier this year.
The AITC managed to win 5 seats in the 60-member Assembly. Of which, 4 are from Garo Hills and 1 from Khasi Hills.
“We have not given it a thought as you have seen we were not very successful in the elections especially in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region. So it will be a difficult call to take,” Pyngrope, who is also a Nongthymmai legislator, told reporters.
Whether his party would only extend support to other political parties, Pyngrope said, “When we decide what to do, that is the second step like they say we will cross the bridge when we come to it.”
