SHILLONG, MAY 16: The NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government will start holding consultation meetings with all stakeholders on implementation of the roster system after a cabinet meeting tomorrow.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters on Tuesday that the government is preparing a very detailed presentation to clear everybody’s doubt about the roster system.
“Therefore, we are going to have a cabinet presentation tomorrow evening. This will be followed by a meeting with MDA partners on May 18 and an All-party meeting on May 19, to discuss the matter,” he said.
He informed that in order to create a space where everybody is accommodated, the government has decided to hold a meeting with the other stakeholders including NGOs, church leaders and traditional heads next week.
“We intend to reach out to everybody to share what exactly is roster,” Sangma said while adding that “the problem is that lots of people don’t understand what roster is actually, a roster is a very complicated yet a very simple thing but to understand it, it is slightly complicated.
He however expressed confidence and said, “But I am pretty sure once everybody sees that presentation they will understand things and most will be satisfied.”
On the VPP’s demand to put on hold all recruitment processes till the reservation policy is reviewed, the chief minister said, “See political parties can say whatever they want to say but a government has to follow procedure and procedure will be followed in all aspects.”
Meanwhile, the VPP will hold a sit-in-protest on Wednesday against the government’s adamant attitude towards its demand.
