SHILLONG, MAR 29: The Election Commission of India on Wednesday announced holding of the election to the Sohiong Assembly seat on May 10.
Election in Sohiong was adjourned due to the demise of former home minister and contesting candidate of United Democratic Party (L) HDR Lyngdoh on February 20.
The election will be held simultaneously along with four other Assembly constituencies in 3 states.
Informing this, State Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said that the date of polling has been fixed on May 10 while date of counting on May 13.
The date of issue of gazette notification will be on April 13 and the last date for filing of nomination will be on April 20.
Scrutiny of nominations will be held on April 21 while the last date of withdrawal of candidatures will be on April 24.
The ECI has also announced that the model code of conduct will come into force with immediate effect in the district(s) in which the whole or any part of the Assembly constituency going for election is included, subject to partial modificaton as issued by the Commission
Meanwhile, the UDP has decided to field Synsharlang Kupar Lyngdoh, who is the nephew of (L) HDR Lyngdoh as its official candidate from Sohiong constituency.
UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh had expressed confidence that Synsharlang will be the 12th MLA of the party in the upcoming election.
Synsharlang will be contesting against the sitting legislator from the ruling National People’s Party and former minister Samlin Malngiang.
