SHILLONG, JAN 14: The candidates and representatives of political parties were given training on the various elections-related guidelines and directives at Maharam Government Secondary School Auditorium, Mawkyrwat on Monday. The state Assembly elections are slated for Feb 23.
District election officer South West Khasi Hills A.Mawlong, additional deputy commissioner in-charge election K.L.Nongbri, other election officers and master trainers conducted the training.
The political representatives were provided training on filing of nomination papers, election expenditures, paid news and printing of pamphlets posters, model code of conduct and various others election-related matters. Candidates and representatives of all political parties of both 35 –Ranikor (ST) Assembly constituency and 36-Mawkyrwat (ST) Assembly constituency attended the training programme.
Earlier, the district election officer said the National Voters Day will be celebrated on the January 25. The objective of the celebration as envisaged by the Election Commission of India, he said, was to allow every individual who has attained the age of 18 years to vote so that the true democracy prevails
The additional DC said the Voters Day celebration will include a public rally. The voter enrollment programme, he said, will also conclude on that day. (By Our Reporter)
