KSU demands removal of doctor

SHILLONG, FEB 8: The Warmawsaw Unit Western Border Area of the Khasi Student Union (KSU) on Wednesday demanded the immediate removal of a doctor from the Warmawsaw PHC alleging that he has failed in his duty.

The Warmawsaw PHC is being looked after by the Karuna Trust.

“We have demanded the Trust to immediately remove him (doctor incharge) within two weeks,” president of the unit Receive Pator told reporters after meeting with the Trust authorities in Shillong here.

He said there has been complaint from the resident that the doctor in-charge of Warmawsaw PHC Dr. Angukato Yepthomi has fail in his duty to serve the public as he is never in the hospital and whenever he is in the hospital he is always in inebriate state.

Pator informed that today the KSU along with the delegation from Warmawsaw and Umsohbar had met the Co-ordinator of the Karuna Trust in Shillong to apprise on the issue face by the people especially on the lack of infrastructure of Warmawsaw which is being run by the Trust.

He added that after receiving complaints from the people, the KSU along with delegations from these two villages had paid a visit to the PHC and have found out that the health centre lacks basic facilities like electricity, water supply medicines besides many others.

“The Warmawsaw PHC which is being run by the Karuna Trust is meant to caters to the need to more than 20 villages and two sub-centres but this PHC lack basic infrastructure and services and it is shocking to learnt that the doctor in-charge of the PHC Dr. Angukato Yepthomi always come to work in inebriate state” alleged Pator.

Pator asserted that the attitude of Dr. Yeptomi who always comes to work in an inebriated state worries the people especially the old and female patients who come and seek medical care from Warmawsaw PHC.

He added that the KSU from time to time had received complaints from people that the doctor in-charge is not discharging his duty as per protocol or procedure as he smokes and drinks inside the PHC.

In this regard the KSU informed that though they have apprise this issue with the Co-ordinator of the Karuna Trust in Shillong but they will soon meet the DMHO of Ri-bhoi district to seek the removal of Dr. Yeptomi and replace him with a local doctor in-charge in order to provide quality health services to the people of these villages.

Pator asserted that if the DMHO Ribhoi district and the Karuna Trust fail to fulfill their demands, they will sit along with the people and the headmen of these villages to take stern steps in making sure that the people receive quality health services.
