HDR confident to win back Sohiong seat

SHILLONG, FEB 3: Former home minister HDR Lyngdoh on Friday expressed confidence that he would be re-elected from Sohiong so that he could repair the damage done to the constituency in the last five years.

After filing his nomination paper on a United Democratic Party (UDP) ticket, the former five-time legislator said, “I foresee the love and affection that the people have for me and definitely I will win without any contradiction…I will bounce back to power.”

“I have decided to contest again to repair the damage that has been done in the last five years,” he said while asking people to judge the performance of the sitting legislator Samlin Malngiang, who recently quit the HSPDP and joined the NPP, in the assembly.

On his decision to join a regional political outfit, the former Congress leader said, “I want to join the regional party to uplift the regionalism in the state with a national outlook.”

“It is the voice of the people, they are crying and wanting that the party of regional entities should rule the state now,” he added.

Terming the performance of the NPP-led MDA government as “disastrous”, Lyngdoh said that the only remedy to this is for the regional party to form the next government.

Earlier, Lyngdoh attributed his defeat in the 2018 assembly polls to being ‘over confidence’.
