SHILLONG, DEC 15: The Meghalaya High Court on Thursday heard a PIL filed against the proposal to fell over 103 trees between the Anjalee-crossing to Jhalupara for the purpose of widening the road.
The petition has been filed in public interest by an advocate Kaustav Paul.
The State submitted through the Advocate-General that it is the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) which is undertaking the work.
“Let such Corporation and the other unserved respondents be served immediately,” the Court said.
Dr N. Mozika, DSGI present in Court has been requested to look into the matter on behalf of the NHIDCL.
Let the matter appear on December 16, 2022.
In the meantime, the State has assured the Court that further felling of trees on the stretch will not be undertaken before the matter is taken up.
