SHILLONG, AUG 20: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Saturday said the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government is answerable for messing up with the mission organic in the state.
Sangma told reporters that investment on the organic mission has gone down the drain. His statement came after the state government had recently decided to lift the ban on use of chemical fertilizers in the state.
“Let them tell the prime minister why they have messed up the whole thing and ultimately the whole mission resulting in this kind of flip-flop after so much of money has been invested not only from the state’s own resources but even the resources which were passed on to the state government by Government of India,” he said.
According to him, this is because there is a total lack of knowledge on the part of the incumbent government.
“I have always said that there is a need for an in-depth understanding by any policy maker so that any decision arrived at and arrived at for implementation does not back fire. So you have to ask them why in the first instance they came up with this promise,” he said adding “They didn’t understand the policy decision that was embarking upon by the government. Therefore, little learning is dangerous.”
He also reminded that the endeavour of the state government with regards to mission organic has been highly appreciated by everyone and that’s why it was acknowledged and ultimately encouraged by the Prime Minister.
“The prime minister himself referred to our various initiatives to encourage organic farming,” he said.
