SHILLONG, JUKY 22: The Court of the Special Judge (POCSO) has sentenced two persons to 18 years and 15 years imprisonment respectively for raping minors.
One Rajingstar Thabah was sent to 18 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a five-year-old minor in 2017 while one Betstarling Basan was sent to 15 years imprisonment for raping a minor in 2012.
“The Court of the Special Judge (POCSO) has found the accused Rajingstar Thabah guilty and convicted him to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment for a period of 18 years and to pay fine of Rs 20,000, in default of fine, to undergo Simple Imprisonment for another 3 months for offence punishable under section 6 of POCSO Act,” East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger said in a statement issued on Friday.
On November 3, 2017, an FIR was lodged at Mawngap police station that one minor girl (5 years and 10 months) was sexually assaulted by Thabah.
A case was registered U/S 5(i)(m)/6 POCSO Act and was endorsed to WPSI/ Konila D. Sangma who after investigation, charge sheeted the case on January 25, 2018.
On November 21, 2012, an FIR was lodged at Laban police station against Betstarling Basan for sexually assaulting a minor girl.

On July 7, the Court of Special Judge (POCSO), found the accused Betstarling Basan guilty and convicted for committing offences U/S 3(a)/4/7/8 POCSO Act and U/S 319/321/323/354/354A/354B/375(
Betstarling Basan was sentenced to imprisonment for 15 years and a fine of Rs 100,000 only U/S 376 (2)(j) of IPC, imprisonment for 1 year U/S 323 IPC, imprisonment for 5 (five) years and a fine of Rs 10,000 U/S 354 IPC, imprisonment for 5 years and fine of Rs 10,000 U/S 354B IPC, imprisonment for 6 years and fine of Rs 10,000 U/S 506 IPC IPC, imprisonment for 5 years and fine of Rs 10,000 U/S 8 of the POCSO Act 2012.
In default of payment of fine the convict shall undergo another month of imprisonment for each default.
