SHILLONG, MAY 23: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) on Monday sought the intervention of the Governor Satya Pal Malik for immediate setting up of a CBI probe into collapse of the dome of the under-construction new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang.
In a memorandum to Malik, HITO president Donbok Dkhar said, “(We) request you to urge the Assembly speaker to initiate an FIR and a CBI inquiry into the collapse of the dome…and to enquire as to cost escalation or corruption if any in the allotment of work by the Meghalaya Assembly tender committee headed by the Speaker.”
Dkhar also urged the Governor to ask the speaker to provide a white paper on the construction of the new Assembly building and to clarify on the complete tender and bidding process including the criteria adopted such as experience, and turnover criteria for selecting the Rajkiya Mirman Nigam Ltd which is implementing the prestigious project.
The HITO also asked for the names of the companies who submitted their bids along with the list of the local representative of any of these selected companies, the list of members of the Tender / Finance Committee and their views and comments and the Recommendation notes if any of the Technical and Financial Officials.
It further wanted to know why such a huge prestigious projects have not been handed over to the renowned Tata Company or L& T which is executing the Vista Project of the PMO.
“Why were inexperienced incompetent officials appointed by Meghalaya Assembly to oversee such large prestigious projects,” the organization said.
Meanwhile, the HITO also urge the Speaker to clarify if an independent agency like Tata Group or L& T will be appointed by the Meghalaya Assembly Secretariat to certify the quality and safety fitness of the new Meghalaya Assembly before inauguration and entry by MLAs, officers, and staff in this premises.
