SHILLONG, APR 1: The All Jaiñtia Mid Day Meal Workers Union on Friday sought the intervention of the Governor Satya Pal Malik into the state government’s adamant attitude to enhance the honorarium of the workers in the state.
“We request you to kindly help us the needy and weaker section of the society (by) taking up our issues with the concerned authority…and with the prime minister of our nation so that necessary steps can be taken by the government to enhance our honorarium,” president of the union Jerry Suting said in the memorandum to Malik.
The Union has been demanding enhancement of honorarium of cooks cum helpers from Rs 900 to Rs 4,000 per month and to enhance the state share from Rs 100 to Rs 1,000 per month (total Rs 5,000 per month).
Memorandums in this regard have been sent to the government for its consideration but no action has been taken so far.
The Union also demanded the state government to pay the Mid-Day Meal Workers their honorarium regularly and not thrice a year as was done at the present.
“We request the state government to pay us for full twelve (12) months instead of 10 (ten) months as being paid at present and Rs.5000 per month as our monthly honorarium,” said Suting.
Meanwhile, the Union further urged the government of India to cover their children with education scholarship and for the workers with health, social and pension schemes sponsored by the government of India and to also avail sick, maternity and paternity leave as per law.
The Union has also asked the government of India to give order to the concerned authority of the state government to sanction fuels such as LPG in the PM POSHAN Kitchen scheme in order to do away with the use of firewood as fuels for cooking.
