NPP chief announces Pathaw as party candidate from Mawlai

SHILLONG, MAR 25: National People’s Party (NPP) national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday announced that Mawlai MDC Teiborlang Pathaw will be the official candidate of the party from the constituency in the upcoming 2023 Assembly polls.

“As announced by the deputy chief minister, Teiborlang Pathaw is the candidate of the NPP from Mawlai,” Sangma said while addressing a function to formally welcome Pathaw and his supporters to the NPP family.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Cabinet Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, MLAs and MDCs.

Referring to Pathaw as an Icon for his effort to resolve the unemployment problem faced by the local youth, the CM said, “He is someone who needs no introduction. He is a person who believes in the youth and that their issues can be resolved. He is not somebody who comes and gives lectures and tells you that we will resolve unemployment, he is resolving it even before giving speeches.”

“He is an Icon and people of the state should learn from him as Pathaw today has created 1,000 jobs. Imagine if this man is given more power, more opportunity to work in a much larger way to resolve the unemployment and other issues of Mawlai constituency,” he added.

Stating that election is not far away, Sangma asked the party leaders from Mawlai as well as the state to work in election with a “fear mode”.

“You have to think that you are losing and work till the end. In that mindset of losing that is when you will go the extra mile as the election is not easy. Election is very tough. Therefore, I want each and every one of you to make sure that the fear mindset is there, to always think we are losing (as) that is the only way to win the election,” he said.

The chief minister also expressed confidence that with more and more people joining, the NPP will come out with flying colours not just from Mawlai constituency but throughout the state of Meghalaya.

On the performance of the NPP-led MDA government during the past four years, the chief minister said his government had taken decisions many leadership do not dare to touch because they are scared of the political ramifications.

“Especially about the border issue, many people came to us and said why do you want to touch the border issue. Why you want to play politics and be negatively affected but the cabinet felt that we are here to serve the people and find the solution,” he said adding “And yes we don’t know what the political ramification is but if we do not do our job and responsibility that people have given us, we will be failing in our duty to serve the people of our state and therefore we took tough decisions.”

He further assured that in the coming days, the state will witness many of the pending issues that have been plaguing the state and due to which people have suffered, are very close to resolution.

“We are working in a very aggressive mode to find solutions without talking much as we don’t talk much, we like to prove it with our action and with our results and that is the reason why today after all these things we have done we today have all these young and dynamics people who want to do good for the state today joining the NPP,” Sangma asserted.
