Draft rules for labour codes

SHILLONG, MAR 17: Minister in-charge Labour Sanbor Shullai on Thursday said that the draft state rules for the four labour codes have been forwarded to the law department for its view.

In order to expedite the process of drafting state rules for the four labour codes, the labour department has formed four groups of officers under the Labour Commissioner’s Office who were tasked with the work of framing of draft Rules for the 4 labour codes, Shullai said while replying to a call attention moved by Umroi MLA George B Lyngdoh in the Assembly.

The Labour Commissioner had forwarded the draft state Rules on Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions, Code on Wages (Meghalaya) Rules, 2021, Industrial Relations rules, 2021 and Social Security Rules, 2021 – to the law department for vetting and advice, he said.

The four draft labour codes are, as such, under process and after receiving the views and comments on the draft rules from the law department and the finance department, wherever required, the final draft rules would then be pre-published in the official Gazette for seeking the views and comments of the stakeholders, Shullai informed.

“I am hopeful that we will be able to pre-publish all the four codes at the earliest so that they are perused and examined by the stakeholders and consultations on the draft codes,” he said.
