SHILLONG, MAR 12: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma has said that the cadres of the banned United Liberation Front of Assam- Independent (ULFA-I) are still at large.
He alleged that the surrender of the top ULFA-I leader Drishti Rajkhowa without arms was completely against the interest of the state’s internal security.
“I have already shared in the House before Drishti Rajkhowa surrendered in South Garo Hills. One day before in the House I said Drishti Rajkhowa is moving around there, they are recruiting people, they already have massive training camps. What happened, the next day you saw Dhristi Rajkhowa surrendering but he surrendered with his bodyguards but no guns. Where are the guns? Do you expect a leader of a banned terrorist organization staying in Garo Hills without any guns to basically for their own protection. None of the militant outfits move without guns,” Sangma said.
“Now when they have surrendered the whole process of surrendering is completely against the interest of the state’s internal security and the national security. Why the state government didn’t ask where the other cadres are? Where are your guns? If you are surrendering, come with your guns,” he added.
Stating that this is not how a government should deal with militancy and terrorism, the former chief minister said, “Therefore, please understand that they are still at large.”
On the allegation of money collected from illegal coal trade being used by people to float new militant outfits in the state, the leader of opposition said anywhere where there is illegality there will be people who would like to have their pound of flesh and it includes the people who are already floating militant outfits.
