SHILLONG, FEB 18: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that engaging experienced people is not a wasteful expenditure by the state government.
“As far as engaging experienced people in the name of advisers is concerned, it is so productive to the MDA government under the leadership of Conrad K Sangma,” Tynsong told reporters here.
He was reacting to the recent statement made by the Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Basaiawmoit, who alleged that the state government is on an appointment spree despite the state is facing acute financial crunch.
Basaiawmoit had questioned the appointment of five advisers to the Chief Minister and the appointment of the retired DGP R Chandranathan as security advisor.
Tynsong however said the state government had taken important decisions on quite a number of issues because of the advisers.
“Just alleging that we spent money because of these people, it is totally wrong. It is in fact a minimal token amount we are paying them,” he added.
The deputy chief minister further clarified that the former DGP has been assigned as security advisor to follow up proposals and also to be a linkage between the state government and the home affairs ministry.
“This is what we are doing and we don’t just waste money but when we engage any person, we engage with calculation so that the state government can be more productive. If the state government is more productive the benefit goes down to the state as a whole,” he asserted.
