SHILLONG, FEB 17: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said that the government cannot just institute an inquiry without any evidence.
He was reacting to the demand made by the opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) for independent inquiry into the alleged illegal coal trade in the state.
Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma had also alleged that money from illegal coal trade is being used for funding people who are trying to float new militant outfits in the state.
When sought for his comment, Conrad Sangma however said that the government had maintained that if there are any cases or situations that are there, people should give in writing all the information.
“One cannot just simply call an inquiry after inquiry just for the sake of inquiry there has to be some basis. There has to be some kind of evidence as you should know because these things cost money, these things are expensive, these things take time,” he said.
“Therefore it’s not that we are running away from it but these types…need to be based on some kind of factual data information. If there is anything, we are happy to move forward but we would like to see some kind of document and then of course we will take necessary action to do,” the chief minister further stated.
