SHILLONG, FEB 16: The five suspended Congress MLAs on Wednesday met the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to discuss the upcoming budget session of the Assembly which will commence from March 4.
“We came to meet the deputy chief minister to obviously discuss the plan of action for that session and look at the roles that we will be assigned in that session,” CLP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh told reporters after the meeting.
She added, “We shouldn’t forget that being a deputy CM he also will give us the guidance because we do not want to project any further confusion to the public who’s already in a state of confusion, so we consolidate and that’s exactly what we want to do.”
The Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh had informed that he is yet to receive any official communication from the Congress about its decision to suspend the five legislators, when asked about their identity in the Assembly.
When asked, Lyngdoh said that the technicalities of this entire discussion is beyond their control.
“They (Congress) have suspended us in their wisdom and we shall deal with that suspension in our wisdom. Now you can’t expect to be dribbling the ball all the time from one side of the corner, the ball goes from this end to that end, so we will take our own decisions as in when the time and need arises,” she said.
“Let me tell you one thing, it would be unfit, unbecoming of a legislator that remains suspended to even comment on such a question, we will not comment further, like we told you after 12 days we will sit collectively and take collective decisions,” Lyngdoh further reiterated.
Whether the meeting was a clear message that the five MLAs will not withdraw support to the MDA government, the CLP leader however said, “It is not good to read between the lines when it is not correct. We do not want to meddle with our political affiliation in public. I’ve said that time and again we discuss issues of the body in the forum of the party.”
“When a discussion was not allowed to even be conducted, leave it at that. Why would you want us to backlash, be angry and be upset, this is not how a politician functions. If and when they call us to any dialogue and discussion, if they are at all even willing to listen to us then we will deal with it at that time,” she stated.
